One myth that is particularly troublesome is the idea of eating several small meals during the day. This sounds great in theory, that it keeps you metabolism high, but in actuality it’s preventing your body from burning fat. When you are eating every couple hours, even if it’s carrots, your body will always be burning eaten and digested food for energy. It will never convert over to fat burning, and you’ll never lose your excess body weight. Your body needs at least four hours between meals to get a chance to switch into fat burning mode.

Probably the biggest myth is that you can lose a lot of weight in a hurry. Sure, we’d all like to believe that, and many producers and marketers capitalize on that fact, but it just isn’t possible. The basic science is that there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. It takes a lot of work to burn that many calories. Losing weight is a slow, lifelong process.

Losing weight is really not that difficult when you understand what works and what doesn’t. Get plenty of exercise, eat three healthy meals per day, and give yourself plenty of time. When you stick to the basics, you will have no problems.
